The New Zealand Superannuation Fund is a global investment fund created to make New Zealand's future pension payments more affordable. It was established by the New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Act 2001. The Fund is managed and administered by a Crown entity called the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation. Its mission is to invest government contributions on a prudent, commercial basis to grow the Fund's value over the long term, thereby reducing the tax burden on future generations of New Zealanders for their retirement benefits.
