Founded in 1858, Monroe Bank & Trust (MBT) was a prominent financial institution serving individuals, businesses, and communities throughout Southeast Michigan for over 160 years. As a community-focused bank, it offered a full range of services including personal and business banking, commercial lending, wealth management, and trust services. In October 2018, First Merchants Corporation announced its intention to acquire MBT Financial Corp., the parent company of Monroe Bank & Trust. The acquisition was completed in September 2019, and all Monroe Bank & Trust locations were subsequently rebranded as First Merchants Bank.
