Founded in 2014 as Quoine, the company rebranded to Liquid in 2018. It became one of Japan's first cryptocurrency exchanges to be officially licensed by the country's Financial Services Agency (FSA). The platform provided services such as spot and margin trading, perpetual swaps, and other crypto-financial services to a global user base. In early 2022, Liquid Group and its subsidiaries were acquired by FTX. However, following the high-profile collapse and Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing of FTX in November 2022, Liquid suspended all operations, including trading and withdrawals, and became entangled in the ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
