The Japan Electronic Payment Promotion Organization (JEPPO), often referred to as J Money, was established in July 2018 by a consortium of major Japanese banks, including Mizuho Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and MUFG Bank. Its mission is to promote and facilitate the adoption of electronic payments to help Japan transition towards a cashless society. The organization's primary service is the operation and expansion of J-Coin Pay, a QR code-based smartphone payment and remittance application that connects directly to users' bank accounts.
