Created in 1975 by the Iowa Legislature, the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) is a self-supporting public agency with the primary mission to finance, administer, and advance affordable housing, as well as promote community and economic development for Iowans. The IFA does not receive state tax dollars for its operating expenses. It achieves its mission by offering a variety of programs, including homeownership assistance for first-time homebuyers, financing for affordable rental housing development, and support for community projects like water quality initiatives through the State Revolving Fund. The authority works in partnership with lenders, developers, and local communities to make Iowa a more affordable place to live, work, and do business.
