The IOTA Foundation is a registered non-profit foundation ("Stiftung") based in Berlin, Germany. Established in 2017 by its co-founders, its mission is to research, develop, and standardize the IOTA distributed ledger technology (DLT), known as the Tangle. Unlike traditional blockchains, the Tangle is designed to be a feeless and scalable protocol optimized for secure data and value exchange between machines in the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem, aiming to power the machine economy. The Foundation works to build a sustainable ecosystem around IOTA by fostering adoption, partnerships, and community growth.
