Founded in 1832 by Quakers in Bradford, England, Friends Provident was one of the UK's oldest and largest mutual life offices. For over 170 years, it specialized in providing life insurance, pensions, and investment products to individuals and businesses. The company demutualized and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2001. In 2011, its UK operations merged with AXA UK Life to form Friends Life, which was subsequently acquired by Aviva in 2015. The international division, Friends Provident International Limited (FPIL), was sold to International Financial Group Limited (IFGL) in 2017 and was fully rebranded as RL360 in 2020. The Friends Provident brand is now effectively retired.
