The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines is one of 11 regional banks in the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) System, a government-sponsored enterprise created by Congress in 1932. As a cooperative owned by its member financial institutions, its mission is to be a reliable provider of low-cost funding, products, and services for members to meet the housing, credit, and financing needs of their communities. It raises funds in the global capital markets and provides loans (advances) and other financial services to banks, credit unions, insurance companies, and community development financial institutions.
