Founded in 1984 by Glenn Greenberg and John Shapiro, Chieftain Capital Management, Inc. was a prominent hedge fund known for its concentrated, long-term, value investing strategy. The firm managed capital for external clients for over two decades. In 2010, the co-founders split, with Glenn Greenberg leaving to form Brave Warrior Advisors. John Shapiro and Tom Stern continued to run Chieftain Capital Management, and in 2015, they converted the firm into a private family office to exclusively manage the assets of its principals, returning all outside capital to investors.
