The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) is an agency in the California executive branch that manages the pension and health benefits for more than 2 million California public employees, retirees, and their families. Established by legislation in 1932, it is the largest public pension fund in the United States, managing a global investment portfolio worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
