Founded in 2008, BASELAYER (originally IO Labs) specialized in creating advanced, software-defined modular data centers. The company engineered and manufactured both the hardware infrastructure (EDGE modules) and the data center operating system software (RunSmart OS) to manage it. Their mission was to provide rapidly deployable, high-density, and energy-efficient data center solutions. In 2017, the company was acquired by IO Data Centers, which was subsequently acquired by Iron Mountain in 2018. The technology and intellectual property of BASELAYER are now integrated into Iron Mountain Data Centers' portfolio.
