Originally launched as Zelcash (ZEL), a fork of Zcash with a focus on privacy and a proof-of-work consensus mechanism, the project has since evolved significantly. In March 2021, it rebranded to Flux to better represent its expanded mission of providing a decentralized cloud infrastructure, often referred to as Web3. The Flux ecosystem now consists of a suite of decentralized computing services (FluxOS), the native cryptocurrency (FLUX), a multi-asset crypto wallet (Zelcore), and a network of user-operated nodes that provide the computational power. The project's goal is to offer an alternative to traditional cloud providers like Amazon Web Services by leveraging blockchain technology for decentralized application hosting and management.
