TD Waterhouse was a prominent discount brokerage firm providing self-directed investors with tools and platforms to trade stocks, options, mutual funds, ETFs, and other securities. Originally an independent company, it was acquired by Toronto-Dominion Bank in 1996. Over the years, the TD Waterhouse brand has been phased out and integrated into other TD brands or sold. In Canada, it was rebranded as TD Direct Investing. In the United States, it merged with Ameritrade to form TD Ameritrade (which has since been acquired by Charles Schwab). In the United Kingdom, it became TD Direct Investing, which was later acquired by Interactive Investor in 2017. The brand now primarily exists as a legal entity name (e.g., TD Waterhouse Canada Inc.) for the Canadian direct investing business.
