Founded in 1921, State Automobile Mutual Insurance Company, commonly known as State Auto, was a property and casualty insurance company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. For over a century, the company provided personal, business, and farm & ranch insurance products exclusively through a network of independent insurance agents across the United States. In March 2022, State Auto was acquired by Liberty Mutual Insurance. The State Auto brand and its operations are being integrated into Liberty Mutual's Safeco Insurance, which also operates through an independent agent distribution model.
