Founded in 2000 by Colm Lyon in Dublin, Ireland, Realex Payments grew to become one of Europe's largest and fastest-growing online payment gateways. The company provided solutions that enabled businesses of all sizes to accept payments securely over the internet and mobile. It processed billions of euros in transactions annually for thousands of domestic and international clients. In March 2015, Realex Payments was acquired by the US-based company Global Payments Inc. for €115 million and has since been fully integrated into the Global Payments brand and its technology stack.
