Founded in 1972 in Gotland, Sweden, PayEx has grown into a significant payment solutions company in the Nordic region. In 2017, the company was acquired by Swedbank, one of the largest banks in the region. Following the acquisition, PayEx merged with Swedbank's card acquiring business to rebrand and launch as Swedbank Pay in 2019.
