The Mina Protocol is a proof-of-stake, layer-1 blockchain, often referred to as the "world's lightest blockchain." Originally known as Coda Protocol, it was developed by O(1) Labs. Its core innovation is the use of recursive zk-SNARKs (Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Arguments of Knowledge) to keep the blockchain at a fixed, small size (approximately 22kb), addressing the issue of blockchain bloat that affects other networks. This design aims to make the protocol more accessible, secure, and decentralized, allowing participants to fully verify the chain on consumer-grade devices. The Mina Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Switzerland that serves as the steward for the Mina Protocol and its ecosystem.
