The International Investment Bank (IIB) is a multilateral development finance institution founded in 1970. Its mission is to foster economic cooperation, connectivity, and integration by providing financing for sustainable and green projects primarily within its member countries. Originally based in Moscow, the bank relocated its headquarters to Budapest, Hungary, in 2019 to better align with European financial markets. However, following the imposition of sanctions by the United States in 2023, several European member states have withdrawn or initiated the process of withdrawal, significantly impacting the bank's operations and future strategy.
