Originally established as the South African Bank of Athens in 1947, the institution was acquired by AFGRI Group Holdings in 2018 and rebranded to Grobank Limited. As Grobank, its mission was to be the premier partner in food, agribusiness, and banking, focusing on providing specialized financial services to the agricultural sector. In March 2021, Nigeria’s Access Bank Plc acquired a controlling stake in Grobank, and by May 2021, the bank was officially rebranded to Access Bank South Africa Limited, shifting its focus to a full-service commercial banking model while leveraging its agricultural expertise.
