Originally founded in 1987, First Calgary Financial was one of Calgary's largest and most prominent credit unions, providing a member-owned alternative to traditional banks. Focused on community involvement and member service, it offered a wide range of personal and business financial products. In 2020, First Calgary Financial merged with Chinook, Mountain View, and Legacy credit unions, and in 2021, the merged entity officially rebranded to operate under a single name: connectFirst Credit Union. Today, the First Calgary Financial brand name is retained for some branches, but it operates as part of the larger connectFirst Credit Union, which is one of the largest credit unions in Alberta, serving over 125,000 members across the province.
