The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) is Switzerland's independent regulatory body for the financial sector. Its mandate is to protect financial market clients—creditors, investors, and policyholders—and to ensure the stability and integrity of the Swiss financial system. Established in 2009, FINMA consolidated the functions of the Federal Office of Private Insurance (FOPI), the Swiss Federal Banking Commission (SFBC), and the Anti-Money Laundering Control Authority. It is responsible for the prudential supervision of banks, insurance companies, stock exchanges, securities dealers, and other financial intermediaries in Switzerland.
