Founded in 1999, EachNet quickly became the dominant online auction and C2C marketplace in China. In 2003, it was fully acquired by eBay for $180 million, rebranding as "eBay EachNet" to serve as eBay's entry into the Chinese market. However, it faced fierce competition from Alibaba's Taobao, which offered free listings and was better adapted to local consumer habits. After losing significant market share, eBay spun off the operation into a joint venture with TOM Online in 2006. The platform continued to decline over the years and officially announced it would cease all operations on August 12, 2022.
