Launched in January 2020 by founder Michael Egorov, Curve Finance is an automated market maker (AMM) protocol designed to facilitate low-slippage swaps between assets that are pegged to the same value, such as various stablecoins (USDC, DAI, USDT) or different wrapped versions of Bitcoin (wBTC, renBTC). Its unique bonding curve formula is optimized for these like-kind assets, allowing it to offer some of the lowest fees and slippage in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. The protocol is governed by the Curve DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization, and its native governance token is CRV, which is used for voting, staking, and earning protocol fees.
