Founded in 1854 as Chicopee Savings Bank, the company served individuals, families, and businesses in Western Massachusetts for over 160 years. It operated as a state-chartered savings bank offering a variety of financial products, including deposit accounts, residential and commercial real estate loans, and consumer loans. In 2006, it formed the holding company Chicopee Bancorp, Inc. In October 2016, Chicopee Bancorp merged with Westfield Financial, Inc. to create a new entity, Western New England Bancorp, Inc. Subsequently, in 2022, Western New England Bancorp, Inc. was acquired by Peoples Bancorp Inc., and all former Chicopee Savings Bank branches were rebranded as Peoples Bank.
