Founded on May 23, 1878, as "Monte de Piedad," the institution was created to combat usury by providing accessible credit. It later evolved into a universal bank, officially becoming the Banco de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. As a public and self-governing entity, its mission is to act as a social and development bank, promoting financial inclusion and supporting the economic growth of the community, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurs, and housing initiatives, while offering a full suite of commercial banking products.
