Originally established as the "Istituto Mobiliare Italiano" (IMI) in 1931, Banca IMI served as the investment bank and capital markets specialist for the Intesa Sanpaolo Group. It provided a comprehensive range of services to institutional investors, financial networks, corporates, and government entities. Its core activities included M&A advisory, structured finance, primary and secondary market activities for equity and debt, and derivatives. In July 2020, as part of a corporate simplification plan, Banca IMI was merged by incorporation into the parent company, Intesa Sanpaolo, with its operations continuing under the newly formed IMI Corporate & Investment Banking (IMI CIB) Division.
