Established in April 2006 by Bank Negara Malaysia (the Central Bank of Malaysia), Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) is an agency dedicated to helping individuals take control of their financial situation and achieve financial well-being. Its primary mission is to promote financial prudence among Malaysians. AKPK's services are built on three main pillars: Financial Education to equip individuals with knowledge for sound financial decision-making, Financial Counselling to provide personalized advice and budgeting, and a structured Debt Management Programme (DMP) to help borrowers work out viable debt repayment plans with their financial service providers. All of AKPK's services for individuals are provided free of charge.
