Verus is a community-driven, open-source project focused on creating a decentralized and scalable blockchain infrastructure through its "Public Blockchains as a Service" (PBaaS) model. Launched in 2018 without an ICO or pre-mine, the project is a fork of Zcash and is built on the principles of fairness and community participation. Its core technology includes the Verus Proof of Power (PoP) consensus mechanism, which is a 50/50 blend of Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS), and VerusID, a system for self-sovereign, revocable, and recoverable digital identities.
