Established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations in 1958, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA or ECA) is one of five regional commissions. Its primary mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered, inclusive, and prosperous Africa by promoting economic and social development, fostering intra-regional integration, and supporting international cooperation for the continent's development. ECA functions as a regional arm of the UN, providing research, policy analysis, and technical assistance to African governments, intergovernmental organizations, and institutions.
