Originally the credit data division of the conglomerate TRW Inc., TRW Credit Services was a pioneer in the consumer credit reporting industry. Alongside TransUnion and Equifax, it formed the "big three" credit bureaus in the U.S., collecting and maintaining credit information on millions of consumers. In 1996, the division was sold to Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners for over $1 billion and was rebranded as Experian. Today, as Experian, the company has expanded globally, providing data, analytical tools, and marketing services to businesses and credit and identity monitoring services to consumers.
