Originally incorporated as Smart e-Money, Inc. (SMI), the company was a pioneer in mobile money services in the Philippines and was the electronic money issuer behind the "Smart Money" platform. A subsidiary of Voyager Innovations, SMI rebranded to PayMaya Philippines, Inc. in 2016 to launch the PayMaya e-wallet and payment processing services. In 2022, the company underwent a major transformation and rebranded again to Maya Philippines, Inc., integrating its e-wallet services with a new digital banking license granted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to its affiliate, Maya Bank, Inc. Today, Maya offers a comprehensive suite of financial services including an e-wallet, digital savings, credit, and cryptocurrency trading, all within a single application.
