Originally founded in 2005 as Sequoia Capital China, the firm established itself as one of the most influential venture capital investors in the country. In June 2023, the firm announced its separation from the U.S. parent company and rebranded to HongShan (红杉), which translates to "Redwood" in Chinese, maintaining a connection to its Sequoia heritage. HongShan continues its mission to be the "Entrepreneurs Behind the Entrepreneurs," providing early and growth-stage funding, strategic guidance, and a global network to help build legendary companies from China that can have a global impact.
