Originally founded in 1999 as the Organización de Desarrollo Empresarial Femenino (ODEF), the entity transitioned into a regulated financial institution in 2015, becoming ODEF Financiera S.A. It is supervised by the National Banking and Insurance Commission (CNBS) of Honduras.
