Octopus Network is a blockchain interoperability protocol built on the NEAR Protocol, providing shared security, interoperability, and community for a wide ecosystem of application-specific blockchains (appchains). Its mission is to significantly lower the capital expenditure required to launch an appchain, reducing the cost from millions of dollars to under one hundred thousand dollars. By using a "Leased Proof-of-Stake" (LPoS) security model, appchains can lease security from the Octopus Relay on the NEAR blockchain, enabling developers to focus on building their applications without the heavy burden of bootstrapping a new consensus mechanism. The project was founded in 2021 to unleash a new wave of innovation in the Web3.0 space.
