Internet Security Research Group (ISRG) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on enhancing internet security and privacy for the public good. Its mission is to reduce financial, technological, and educational barriers to secure communication over the Internet. ISRG's most significant project is Let's Encrypt, a free, automated, and open certificate authority (CA) that provides SSL/TLS certificates to hundreds of millions of websites, enabling widespread HTTPS encryption. Founded in 2014 by Mozilla, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and the University of Michigan, ISRG is sponsored by numerous major technology companies and foundations.
