Atticus Capital
Information by Research Trustfinance
Founded in 1995 by Timothy Barakett, Atticus Capital was a prominent hedge fund manager known for its activist and event-driven investment strategies. At its peak in 2007, the firm managed over $20 billion in assets, making it one of the largest hedge funds in the world. The firm was famous for its activist campaigns, notably its attempt to block the merger of Deutsche Börse and the London Stock Exchange. In August 2009, Barakett announced the firm would be closing its flagship funds and returning the majority of capital to investors, citing a desire to spend more time with his family and on philanthropic activities. The firm officially wound down its operations in the years that followed.
