Android Pay
Information by Shawn Tobyn
Originally launched by Google at its 2015 I/O conference, Android Pay was a digital wallet platform designed to compete with services like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. It utilized near-field communication (NFC) to transmit card information for payments and employed tokenization to secure transaction data, replacing the customer's actual card details with a unique virtual account number. In January 2018, Google announced the merger of Android Pay and Google Wallet into a single, unified payment service called Google Pay. This rebranding aimed to create a more cohesive and comprehensive payment experience for users across all of Google's products. The services of Android Pay are now fully integrated into the Google Pay and Google Wallet ecosystem.
