Paraiba World, led by CEO Erich Ely, emerged as an online investment platform primarily targeting a global audience. The company claimed to generate profits for its members through unique cryptocurrency trading activities, offering daily returns of approximately 0.3% or more. The business model heavily relied on a multi-level marketing (MLM) system, where members earned commissions for recruiting new investors. The platform operated through its own "Paraiba" crypto asset. Due to its opaque operations, promises of unrealistic returns, and lack of licensing, numerous financial regulators worldwide issued public warnings against the company, identifying it as a probable pyramid or Ponzi scheme. The platform eventually collapsed and attempted a rebrand to "Trillaint," which continued a similar model and also faced widespread warnings before its own collapse.
