Its technology was designed to be broker-neutral, offering clients flexibility and connectivity to various liquidity sources. In 2011, MIXIT was acquired by Investment Technology Group (ITG) to enhance ITG's end-to-end trading solutions. Subsequently, in 2019, Virtu Financial acquired ITG, and MIXIT's technology and platforms were fully integrated into Virtu's comprehensive suite of financial technology products, particularly its Triton EMS.
