Originally founded as a collaborative project (Project Voltron) by a consortium of major global banks including HSBC, ING, and Standard Chartered, Contour was officially launched as an independent entity in 2020. The company's mission is to digitize and streamline the traditionally paper-intensive and fragmented trade finance process, particularly for Letters of Credit (LCs). By leveraging R3's Corda blockchain technology, Contour creates a decentralized and secure network that enables all parties in a trade transaction to collaborate in real-time, significantly reducing processing times, costs, and the risk of fraud.
