Founded in 2013 by Craig Moffett and Michael Nathanson, Communications Equity Research LLC (d.b.a. MoffettNathanson) quickly established itself as a leading research boutique for institutional investors. The firm is renowned for its definitive, differentiated, and often contrarian analysis of the TMT and FinTech industries. In 2021, the company was acquired by SVB Securities (formerly SVB Leerink). Following the 2023 collapse of SVB Financial Group, the investment banking division, including the MoffettNathanson team, was acquired by its own management team with backing from The Baupost Group and has rebranded to its legacy name, Leerink Partners. MoffettNathanson continues to operate as a distinct research division within Leerink Partners, maintaining its brand and focus on high-quality, independent equity research.
