Founded by Stephen Garten, Charity Charge is a Public Benefit Corporation with a mission to support the nonprofit sector. Initially, the company offered a consumer credit card that allowed users to automatically donate their cash-back rewards to any K-12 school, college, or nonprofit of their choice in the U.S. In late 2023, the consumer card program was discontinued, and the company pivoted to focus exclusively on its business-to-business (B2B) product: the Charity Charge Nonprofit Business Card. This Mastercard, issued by Commerce Bank, is tailored for the expense and purchasing needs of nonprofit organizations, offering features like custom controls, tax-exempt reporting, and exclusive nonprofit rewards.
