Celsius Network

Founded in 2017 by Alex Mashinsky and Daniel Leon, Celsius Network operated as a crypto lending platform under the slogan "Unbank Yourself." Its core business involved allowing users to deposit various cryptocurrencies and earn high-yield interest, or take out loans using their crypto as collateral. The company generated revenue by lending these assets to institutional and retail borrowers at higher rates. At its peak, it managed billions of dollars in user assets. However, following extreme market volatility and a "run on the bank," Celsius froze customer withdrawals in June 2022 and subsequently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2022, revealing a significant deficit in its balance sheet. The company has since ceased all original operations as part of its restructuring plan.
