Australian Prudential Regulation Authority

Established on 1 July 1998, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is an independent statutory authority that supervises institutions across banking, insurance, and superannuation. Its core mission is to ensure the Australian financial system remains stable, efficient, and competitive, and to protect the interests of depositors, policyholders, and superannuation fund members. APRA achieves this by setting and enforcing prudential standards, monitoring regulated entities to ensure they are financially sound and well-managed, and taking corrective action when necessary.
