Founded in 1990, Arm Holdings plc is a British semiconductor and software design company that is central to the global technology ecosystem. The company's primary business model is designing and licensing intellectual property (IP) for processors, including CPUs and GPUs, rather than manufacturing and selling physical semiconductor chips. Arm's energy-efficient processor designs are the architectural foundation for the vast majority of the world's smartphones, as well as a growing number of devices in computing, IoT, automotive, and infrastructure markets. After being acquired by SoftBank Group in 2016, Arm went public again in a major IPO on the NASDAQ in September 2023.
