The company targeted consumers with student debt, promising to lower or eliminate their loan payments by enrolling them in federal repayment programs. In 2018, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging it deceptively charged millions of dollars in illegal upfront fees for services that are otherwise available to borrowers for free through the Department of Education. Following the FTC action, a federal court froze the company's assets and ultimately issued a permanent injunction in 2020, banning it from the industry and ending its operations.
