Smartika Spa was a pioneering peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platform in Italy, authorized by the Bank of Italy. Founded in 2007 and launched in 2012, its mission was to create a direct, transparent, and efficient marketplace for credit, connecting private individuals who wanted to invest their savings (lenders) with other individuals and businesses seeking loans (borrowers), bypassing traditional banking intermediaries. In July 2022, Smartika Spa was acquired by and merged into Borsa del Credito S.p.A., which subsequently rebranded to Opyn S.p.A., integrating Smartika's P2P lending model into its broader fintech and digital lending services for businesses.
