Rochdale

Information by Research TrustFinance

Founded in 1975, Rochdale Securities LLC was a US-based institutional brokerage firm headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. The company provided institutional clients, such as mutual funds and pension funds, with equity research and trade execution services. Its business model focused on an agency-only basis, meaning it executed trades on behalf of clients without trading its own capital. The firm abruptly collapsed in late 2012 after one of its traders executed a massive, unauthorized trade, purchasing what was reported to be $1 billion worth of Apple Inc. stock. The failed trade resulted in a multi-million dollar loss that wiped out the firm's capital, leading to its bankruptcy and subsequent liquidation managed by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC).
