Founded in Bradford in 1880, Provident Financial plc was a British financial group specializing in sub-prime (or non-standard) lending. For over a century, its core business included doorstep loans (the Consumer Credit Division), credit cards through its subsidiary Vanquis Bank, and vehicle finance via Moneybarn. In response to mounting regulatory pressure and changing market dynamics, the company closed its historic doorstep lending business in 2021. In March 2023, the parent company officially rebranded to Vanquis Banking Group to better reflect its strategic focus on its primary banking and lending operations through its main subsidiaries, Vanquis and Moneybarn.
