Originally founded in 1986 as Bank Rozwoju Eksportu (BRE Bank), the company pioneered internet banking in Poland by launching the "mBank" brand in 2000 as the country's first fully online bank. In 2013, the entire group, including its corporate and private banking arms, was rebranded under the unified mBank name.
